Ferrari prototypes are already impossibly rare, so this is certainly a unique opportunity.
While the sales of the 308 Quattrovalvole were very satisfactory, the Ferrari technicians were already working on its successor at the begining of 1984; at this time, it has already been decided that the new successor to the 308 would be ideally offered in a third, new, variant, that is a full convertible with a cloth top.A sole prototype was built in the spring of 1984. Heavily camouflaged, this car was extensively tracked at the test circuit of Fiorano, and also driven on the roads around Maranello and in the nearby mountains. The development work continued well into the beginning of 1985, to try to achieve an acceptable stiffness of the chassis. This prototype 328 Cabriolet, still camouflaged, was photographed by italian press photographer Alessandro Stefanini, whose pictures of the car were published in the June 1985 edition of the british car monthly "Motor".The cloth top and its mechanism were directly inspired by the one of the "Mondial Cabriolet"; but the 328 Cabriolet, as we know, never came into production. The main reason was not the chassis' insufficient stiffness, but mainly the fear of Ferrari's marketing department that it would hurt a lot the Mondial sales, which has only been recovering when the "Mondial Cabriolet" has been offered. A full convertible 328 would have hurt the "Mondial Cabriolet" sales a lot, it was feared.
Colombo & Co. is proud to announce that this yellow beauty will remain in Belgium and will soon be seen on Belgian roads.
