1985 Ferrari Testarossa Monospecchio

This 1985 Ferrari Testarossa is an early example of Maranello’s definitive flat-12 supercar, presented in its factory-correct Rosso Corsa over Crema color scheme with a Marrone dashboard and tan carpets.
Delivered new to the U.S. and imported to the UK in 2015, it is finished in the rare and desirable Monospecchio / Monodado configuration, seen only on the earliest models.

With 31,378 miles from new, this car benefits from a fully documented and continuous service history, and has been mechanically maintained to an outstanding standard by Ferrari marque specialists. Most recently, a full engine-out service was completed by Foskers in 2023, including fresh cam belts, fluids, and a full mechanical inspection.

Monospecchio & Monodado – The Purest Expression of the Testarossa

Only the earliest Testarossas received the dramatic Monospecchio mirror mounted high on the A-pillar. Intended to meet U.S. visibility standards, the single mirror quickly became a design signature of the era, emblematic of the Testarossa’s visual drama and motorsport-derived boldness. It was soon replaced by twin mirrors in later production runs, making early single-mirror cars increasingly collectible.

The center-lock Monodado wheels, shod in period-correct Michelin TRX tyres, further distinguish these early cars. Rooted in Ferrari’s Formula 1 and endurance racing heritage, the single-nut hubs were discontinued in 1986, making surviving examples like this one all the more significant.

Engine and Performance – Ferrari’s Flat-12 at Full Voice

At the heart of the Testarossa lies a 4.9-litre naturally aspirated flat-12, producing around 385 horsepower. Fed by twelve individual intake runners and dry-sumped for consistent lubrication under load, the engine delivers its power through a five-speed open-gate manual transmission, with a broad torque band and a crescendoing howl that climbs to 7,000 rpm. The sound is pure 1980s Ferrari — raw, metallic, and unforgettable.

Thanks to decades of attentive ownership and continuous specialist care, this example is in exceptional mechanical condition. The engine performs exactly as it should: crisp throttle response, smooth idle, and strong power delivery across the rev range. Its most recent engine-out service by Foskers in 2023 included a full belt service, fluid refresh, and detailed mechanical inspection, with no expense spared to ensure the drivetrain operates flawlessly. The car will be sold to its new owner with a fresh service.

With its wide rear track, mid-engine layout, and no electronic interference, the Testarossa offers a driving experience that’s engaging, physical, and deeply analog — a proper 12-cylinder Ferrari built at the height of Maranello’s golden era.

Condition, Provenance & Concours-Level Preparation

This Testarossa is an exceptionally well-preserved example — remarkably original throughout, including its factory bodywork and trim. The interior presents beautifully, with supple Crema leather, a Marrone upper dash, and clean tan carpets. All materials remain correct and unmodified.

Prior to its fourth owner’s acquisition in 2015, the car underwent concours-level cosmetic and mechanical preparation by IAG Classics, a multi-time Cavallino Classic-winning team known for their meticulous restoration work. Since then, it has been in the care of Ferrari specialists Foskers, with annual servicing, correct storage, and regular operation to maintain mechanical integrity.

An Early and Pure Testarossa

This 1985 Monospecchio Testarossa represents the earliest and most visually distinct phase of the model’s evolution — a car built before regulatory compromises softened the design and character. With known provenance, original finishes, concours-level preparation, and recent major mechanical work, it is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a reference-level early Testarossa.

A supercar of unmistakable presence, rich technical detail, and historic importance — this is the Testarossa as it was meant to be.
