2004 Porsche 996 GT3 RS

Offered for sale is an exceptional 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 RS, one of the most sought-after modern Porsches and a landmark model in the marque’s history. As the first GT3 RS ever produced by Porsche, the 996 GT3 RS laid the foundation for every Rennsport model that followed, combining uncompromising motorsport engineering with road-going usability.

Built in extremely limited numbers, with only 682 examples produced worldwide, the 996 GT3 RS remains one of the rarest GT3 RS models ever made. These modest production numbers were not the result of exclusivity by design, but rather reflected the market at the time. In the early 2000s, demand for uncompromising, road-legal track cars was relatively limited, and Porsche’s primary objective in developing the GT3 RS was to satisfy homologation requirements for international motorsport.

The model was conceived as the road-going foundation for Porsche’s racing programme, making it extremely hardcore being the only GT3 RS model ever delivered from the factory without traction control or Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and relying purely on driver skills, making its rarity a direct consequence of its motorsport purpose rather than a marketing exercise, a stark contrast to today’s highly coveted GT models.

This particular example stands out thanks to its exceptional originality and provenance. The car is accompanied by extensive documentation and has had just five known owners from new. Most importantly, it remains in first paint, a rarity for any high-performance Porsche of this era. The characteristic factory paint bubbles on the front luggage compartment (frunk) are still present. To further confirm its originality, the car is accompanied by an official letter from Porsche Belgium certifying that it retains its factory paint throughout.

At the heart of the 996 GT3 RS lies the legendary 3.6-litre naturally aspirated Mezger flat-six. An engine whose architecture traces its lineage directly to Porsche’s Le Mans-winning racing programme. Revered for its durability, razor-sharp throttle response, and unmistakable character, the Mezger engine is widely regarded as one of the greatest naturally aspirated engines Porsche has ever built.

Producing 381 PS and 385 Nm of torque, the GT3 RS accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of approximately 306 km/h (190 mph). Combined with a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox, reduced weight, no traction control, adjustable motorsport-derived suspension, and outstanding steering precision, it delivers one of the purest driving experiences ever offered in a road-going watercooled 911.

Today, the 996 GT3 RS occupies a unique position in Porsche’s history. It is not only the first chapter in the GT3 RS story, but also one of the last truly analogue, lightweight, Mezger-powered driver’s cars. With its exceptional originality, factory air conditioning, verified first paint, comprehensive history, and limited ownership, this example represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the most important and collectible GT models Porsche produced.
